Carolina Panthers vs. Atlanta Falcons
The Carolina Panthers were able to finish second in the NFC South with a 7-10 record. They are going to be depending on rookie quarterback Bryce Young with the first overall pick. The Atlanta Falcons finished last in the NFC South with a 7-10 record as well and are looking to see improvement with their young offensive team. These teams split their two games last year against one another with the home team winning each game.

Panthers vs. Falcons Key Stats
Carolina Panthers
The offense of the Carolina Panthers is going to look a lot different than it has the last time we saw them in a non-preseason game. The offense in 2022 is 20th in the sport with 20.4 points on 306.2 total yards per game. They traded for the first overall pick as they wanted to select Bryce Young under center as well as drafting wide receiver Jonathan Mingo. In addition, they signed Adam Theilen and DJ Chark for the wide receiver room while also signing running back Miles Sanders. With head coach Frank Reich looking to put his fingerprint on this team, the offense is going to be interesting to watch.
The defense has not changed too much from last season as they added right outside linebacker Justin Houston and defensive end Deshawn Williams in the starting lineup. They were close to average throughout the previous season as they finished 19th in the sport with a 350.2 total yards of offense. Things will be interesting to see how this Carolina defense will be able to do in the upcoming season.
Atlanta Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons has been America’s darling throughout the offseason as they are ready to improve with this young core. Quarterback Desmond Ridder has the full support of the offense as he rarely played in 2022 as he went 73-of-115 (63.5 completion percentage) for 708 yards with two touchdowns and zero interceptions. With the offensive skill position players returning and getting a new running back in the first round of the NFL draft in Bijan Robinson, this offense is ready to take that next step. Last season, they finished 15th in the NFL with 21.5 points on 318.6 total yards.
The defense of the Falcons is something to be excited about as well. They traded with the Detroit Lions for cornerback Jeff Okudah to improve their secondary. However, they also went shopping during free agency and added defensive end Calais Campbell and linebacker Bud Dupree to help get to the next level. Last season, the Falcons defense finished 23rd in the sport allowing 22.7 points per game. Expect to see a bit of an improvement in that department.
Panthers vs. Falcons Prediction
I feel a little afraid with my pick as it seems to be a square bet right now as the public loves the Atlanta Falcons. However, Atlanta was 6-3 at home last season while Carolina was 2-6 on the road. Desmond Ridder should play a lot better this season as the starting quarterback and rookie quarterbacks typically struggle in the opening game of their career. Atlanta’s offense should do extremely well with Drake London, Kyle Pitts, Cordarrelle Patterson and Bijan Robinson. I would wait and see on the Panthers offense as there was a lot of changes and the contract situation of Brian Burns worries me about them as well.
