Well, here we are again. The 148th running of the Kentucky
Derby, The most prestigious horse race in America.
This year we have a 20-horse field with so many possibilities so let’s get to it.
Let’s start with the 2 favorites.
Zandon: 3-1 ran a great race in the Bluegrass Stakes. He came from
far back and passed 10 horses to win going away. That was probably the
most impressive prep race of the 3-year-olds. We don’t believe he is going to be able to navigate through this field so we are going to pass on him.
Epicenter: 7-2 has a different running style. He will look to be on
the lead. If he gets it he will be hard to beat. His race in the
Risen Star is proof of that. We don’t think he will get the lead, so
we will pass on him as well.
Our top 2 choices in this race will have value. Let’s start with
White Abbarrio at 10-1. He Is peaking at the right moment which is
always key in this race. Jockey Tyler Gaffalione will have this horse in good
position to win.
Our other choice is Smile Happy at 20-1. He ran 2nd to both top
choices in different races and will be closing like a train. Corey
Lanerie gets him up late for the win.
