Cincinnati at Pittsburgh 6:35 PM EST
Line: Reds -120
Pitching Match-up: Castillo (R) vs Thompson (R)
The Reds have been playing better baseball as of late, winning 3 straight games and 6 of their last 10 after beginning the season 3-20. The one team they have had success against this season is the Pirates as they are 4-1 against Pittsburgh this season. That being said, we still have no interest in laying -120 with a team as bad as Cincinnati. Nor are we excited to get on Pittsburgh as an underdog because they are bad as well.
Instead, we will look at the total. The over is 22-10-1 in the 33 games the Reds have played this year and that is mainly because their pitching is horrendous. They have a 6.26 staff ERA which is by far the worst in the majors.
Do you know who has the 2nd worst staff ERA. That would be the Pittsburgh Pirates at 4.89. If you want to discuss two awful pitching staffs, look no further than the Pirates and the Reds.
Last night there were 10 runs scored between these two teams with the Reds getting 8 of them. The starting pitchers for tonight’s game are Castillo for Cincinnati, with his 5.79 ERA and Thompson for Pittsburgh, with his 7.08 ERA.
Thompson has not made it past the 5th inning in any of his 4 starts this season and this is the 2nd time the Reds are seeing him in less than a week.
Castillo is making his second start of the season. In his first start he went 4 2/3 and allowed 3 earned runs to Milwaukee in a game the Reds lost 10-5.
We do not expect either pitcher to have great success in this one and forget the bullpens because they are terrible.
The home plate umpire for tonight is Lance Barret and even though the under is 1-4 in his 5 games behind home plate, there have been 19 walks issued in his last 2 games. We don’t expect either staff tonight to get help from him which is another reason we expect this game to sail over this number.
