AFC West 2023 Preview

The AFC West has incredible talent in the division and it seems to be the Kansas City Chiefs and then everyone else. Let’s take a deeper dive into each team and discuss what teams have a realistic chance to win the AFC West.

Kansas City Chiefs (-165)

After winning the Super Bowl, expecting the Kansas City Chiefs to win the division again is a safe bet. Patrick Mahomes continues to be the best player on the planet and the offensive line added left tackle Donovan Smith to try to add some protection. This offense remains very similar to last year.

The defense should be interesting as right now they do not have Chris Jones as he is in the midst of a holdout. They drafted Felix Anudike-Uzomah to provide some help on the defensive line and things could get interesting. The defense needs to be around average to expect the Chiefs to dominate and they should be able to be a top-20 defense.

Los Angeles Chargers (+340)

It will be interesting to see how this team does as there is a lot of talent. Offensive coordinator Kellen Morre joins after leaving the Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Justin Herbert has a lot of weapons. In addition to drafting wide receiver Quentin Johnston they have Mike Williams, Keenan Allen and Austin Ekeler. The defense also has some strong pieces with Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa. They can win but it’s just tough to expect them to be anything but a Wild Card team until they prove it.

Denver Broncos (+550)

The Broncos added Sean Payton to be the head coach of the team and try to correct the issues of last season. Russell Wilson is very similar to Drew Brees and his will be interesting. The Broncos will be without Tim Patrick for a second consecutive season but have some solid receivers with Courtland Sutton, Marvin Mims Jr and Jerry Jeudy. They also have Javonte Williams and Samaje Perine in the backfield. The defense is extremely talented and this should be one of the best in the sport. Denver feels like the only real threat to dethrone the Chiefs.

Las Vegas Raiders (+1200)

Out for the Raiders under center will be Jimmy Garoppolo after he finally passed his physical. They have some solid receivers on the team with Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers and Hunter Renfrow but traded away tight end Darren Waller. Josh Jacobs still has not signed his franchise tag and it will be interesting.

The defense is okay at best but they have to figure out an identity and this team feels like the basement dweller of the division.
