Falcons vs. Lions Key Stats
Atlanta Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons have been doing a pretty good job offensively up to this point as they are averaging 24.5 points on 346.5 total yards per game. The offense has been very balanced running and passing the football and Desmond Ridder has been doing decently well at the quarterback spot. So far, he is 34-of-50 (68.0 completion percentage) for 352 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. They also have an incredibly talented backfield with rookie running back Bijan Robinson as he has 29 rushing attempts for 180 yards (6.2 yards per carry) and 10 receptions for 75 yards (7.5 yards per catch) with a receiving touchdown. If they can get all their young talent involved, this offense will be hard to stop.
Their defense has been doing incredibly well as they are allowing 17 points on 267.5 total yards per game. They struggled a bit against the Green Bay Packers last week as they gave up 24 points on 224 total yards but did well in a lot of different aspects. The Falcons held the Packers offense to 3-of-9 on third down attempts and failed their only fourth down try. Atlanta needs to do better than one sack in a game and allowed four rushing yards per attempt. They can improve on this side of the ball, they can be viewed as a huge force in the NFC.
Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions have been doing very well as they are scoring 26 points on 398 total yards per game. Quarterback Jared Goff finally threw an interception right before he broke the NFL record but has been playing incredibly well as he is 50-of-70 (71.4 completion percentage) for 576 yards with four touchdowns and one interception. They have some talented running backs with rookie Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. Montgomery has 37 rushes for 141 yards (3.8 yards per attempt) with two rushing touchdowns and a seven-yard catch. This offense has a lot of weapons and could surprise a lot of people over the course of the season.
The defense of the Detroit Lions have room for improvement as they have given up 28.5 points on 363 total yards per game. They already lost safety CJ Gardner-Johnson and cornerback Emmanuel Moseley is on the injury report so their secondary is weakened. The team has done well as they are allowing 86 rushing yards per game up to this point as they continue to step up on that front. The defense needs a lot of work as they have only recorded one sack and one interception throughout the first two games of the season. Detroit needs to improve going forward to be atop the NFC North.
