Bears vs. Commanders Key Stats

Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears offense has been struggling to get going this season as they are 22nd in the sport with 18.8 points per game. They rank 24th in passing and 13th in rushing so far and will need to see quarterback Justin Fields continue to improve. So far this season, Fields is 79-of-123 (64.2 completion percentage) for 861 yards with seven touchdown passes and five interceptions through the air and 28 rushing attempts for 134 yards (4.8 yards per carry) and a rushing touchdown. With Chase Claypool being a healthy inactive last week and likely this game too, it will be interesting to see how the Bears offense will do.

The Bears defense has been one of the worst in the NFL as they are 31st with 34.3 points per game given up right now. Teams have been moving the chains way too easily against them as the opposing offense is 33-of-56 (58.93 percent) on third down attempts and 2-of-3 (66.67 percent) on fourth down tries. Chicago has already allowed 10 passing touchdowns this season through four games and need to show a lot of improvement on that front as the opposing quarterbacks have been able to pick their spots against a porous secondary this year.

Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders have been an average offensive team to begin the regular season as they are 17th in football with 22.3 points per game. They are 20th in passing yards and 17th in rushing yards and need quarterback Sam Howell to continue to show improvement this season. He has been doing decently well as he is 97-of-140 (67.1 completion percentage) for 961 yards with four touchdowns and five interceptions. The running game has been controlled by running back Brian Johnson Jr as he has 61 rushing attempts for 261 yards (4.3 yards per carry) with three rushing touchdowns as well as six receptions for 55 yards (11 yards per catch) with a touchdown reception. The offense has to continue to improve on their 16-of-48 (33.3 percent) on third downs if they want to step up here.

The defense for Washington Commanders has been dreadful despite all the talent on that side of the field as they are 30th in the NFL with 30 points per game given up. They are doing a good job of forcing takeaways with six thus far (three interceptions, three fumble recoveries). Defensive end Montez Sweat has been getting the job done as he leads the Commanders with three sacks, four tackles for loss and a pair of forced fumbles.
