Colorado State Rams vs. Colorado Buffaloes Key Stats

Colorado State Rams

The Colorado State Rams had the week off to prepare for this game as they were able to score 24 points on 357 total yards against Washington State. Freshman quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi had a decent game as he was 13-of-20 (65 completion percentage) for 210 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. The offense struggled to run the ball in the game as they ran 20 times for 37 yards (1.9 yards per carry). However, they turned the ball over twice as they threw two interceptions throughout the game. They need to figure things out if they want to step up here and pull off the upset.

The defense was awful as they finished with 50 points on 556 total yards in the opening game. The Cougars dominated offensively on third down as they were 11-of-17 on those opportunities. The defense was able to apply a decent amount of pressure with three sacks and 10 tackles for loss. They also were able to recover a pair of fumbles in the game. They need to figure out how to step up and not allow teams to march down the field consistently against them.

Colorado Buffaloes

The Colorado Buffaloes have been doing incredibly well offensively as the team is averaging 40.5 points on 509.5 total yards per game. Junior quarterback Shedeur Sanders has been dominant thus far as he is 69-of-89 (77.5 completion percentage) for 903 yards with six passing touchdowns while also running in a touchdown. This offense can really come out of nowhere and dominate as they did not score in the first 25 minutes of the game against Nebraska and still finished with 36 points. This will be interesting to see how if this will be seen as a trap game.

The defense of the Buffaloes have been doing okay as they are allowing 28 points on 441 total yards per game. They have to defend the run better as they are giving up 242 rushing yards per game. In last week’s game against Nebraska, Colorado gave up 5.4 rushing yards per attempt. However, they did extremely well as they held the Cornhuskers to just 4-of-13 on third down and 0-of-2 on fourth down tries. This defense can step up as they forced four turnovers (three fumble recoveries, one interception) and really snowball things here.
