COLLEGE FOOTBALL WEEK 1
Illinois at Indiana (September 2nd, 8:00 pm est)
Line: Indiana -1.5
We used Illinois for free last week against Wyoming and that worked out well for us. We are going to stay with the Fightin’ Illini here as we like some of the advantages that we feel they have starting with the fact that this is the 2nd game vs the 1st game for Indiana. Illinois did exactly what we expected them to do vs Wyoming, winning the game by 32 points.
They have experience at the QB position and at Running Back as well and that will help them being on the road here. They also have a deep stable of Wide Receivers and with Indiana being one of the worst defenses in the Big 10 this year, we feel it’s unwise to lay any points with them because they simply don’t get big stops.
These teams haven’t played each other in a few years so despite being in the same conference there really is no familiarity between them. Indiana lost their last 8 games last year and they were absolutely destroyed in 6 of those games. They also gave up no less than 29 points in any of their last 6 games. Their offense in their final 4 games accounted for a measly 31 combined points. They still have not announced their starting QB (as of this writing) while either Connor Bazelak or Jack Tuttle will win the job, neither has much experience at all. They also lost their top 4 running backs from last year and a poor offensive line.
So, they don’t have a great defense, they don’t have a good offense and they are favored over an Illinois team that simply has more talent. Sometimes the oddsmakers make a mistake and we feel this is one of those times.
Expect Illinois to get the lead early and maintain it with a strong running game and solid defense.
