Even though it is Preseason, the Lions did a Lions thing last week blowing a game in unreal fashion. 1st and 10 with 2:04 remaining in the game and ahead 23-20 on Atlanta, Detroit decided to fumble the snap and give the Falcons new life.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, they give up the go ahead score on a 4th and 9 play with 1:30 left in the game. If that isn’t a Detroit thing to do, we have no idea what is. Statistically, the Lions pretty much dominated that game. They had 8 more first downs, 86 more total yards, they won the time of possession battle, but they turned the ball over twice and the last one was the reason they lost.
One thing that was concerning is the rush defense which allowed 168 yards and 5.8 yards per carry. Atlanta isn’t supposed to be a good football team at all this season, and they still averaged almost 6 yards per rush.
Now Detroit goes on the road to play Indianapolis and the Colts have some solid depth at the QB position with Matt Ryan, Nick Foles and Sam Ehlinger. All played well last week against Buffalo, and it was a game that was in their control as they were up 24-10 in the 4th but they decided they had seen enough and really did nothing over the last 10 minutes of the game.
We expect a more complete effort from Indianapolis here and with that depth they have at QB, we expect them to make plays well into the 4th quarter. The Colts were able to run on a good Buffalo defense in the first half last week and we expect them to have success running it early today.
Last week, Indianapolis didn’t complete the game. At home this week, we don’t feel that will be a problem. The Colts have division title aspirations this season and maybe much more than that. This is their dress rehearsal for the Regular Season, and we expect it to be a good one.
We are going to take the Colts +3 but on the money line at +130 as well for a 1* Free Pick.
