Houston at Brooklyn 7:30 PM EST
Line: Nets -17
Total: 245
Brooklyn is currently the 10th seed in the Eastern Conference, but they will have a legit chance to move up to the 8 seed over the last week of the season as they play a weak schedule, starting tonight with a home match-up against Houston this evening.
Obviously, we expect the Nets to win this game tonight however, covering 17 points in the NBA is a whole other story and believe it or not, the Nets are just 5-24 against the spread this season as home favorites. That is certainly a number to be concerned with.
That said, they are a far superior team to the Rockets and should have no problem jumping out to a big lead quite early in this game. Durant and Irving are playing good basketball at this moment, but it has not translated to winning games like Brooklyn hoped it would. KD dropped 55 in their last game against Atlanta, but the Nets lost by 7 and he missed 2 game winning shots against Milwaukee 2 games ago. Both of those teams are far better than Houston and had something to play for.
The Rockets come into this game losers of 4 straight and allowed at least 117 points in each game. 3 of those 4 losses came against Sacramento and San Antonio while the other loss came against Minnesota.
You can clearly tell that Houston is putting no defensive effort in and that does not bode well for playing against 2 of the most gifted scorers in the league on a team desperate for wins.
All this said, we are not willing to lay 17 in an NBA Game however, we will use the Nets -10.5 in the first half. As we said above, we expect Brooklyn to jump out early and then maintain the lead in the 2nd half. We aren’t comfortable with laying 17 because they could be playing back-up players in the 4th quarter.
