Houston Astros vs. Minnesota Twins Betting Odds Breakdown

The Houston Astros will be making a trip up to Minnesota for a three game series with the Minnesota Twins.

Minnesota is coming into this game as the favorite at -1.5, and the over/under is sitting at 8 runs. Along with that, the moneyline is sitting at -125 for Minnesota and +105 for Houston.

Houston Astros Preview

The reigning World Series champions are coming into this game at 3-4, and they will be looking to improve on that in this game.

Houston has had a bit of a rocky start to the season, with them just avoiding a sweep against the Detroit Tigers in their last series. Even with the bit of an interesting start, the Houston Astros are still undoubtedly one of the best teams in the league. They may even be the best team in the whole league. They may be very good, but they can’t be letting a team like the Tigers beat them twice in a three game set.  Their biggest problem in that series was mainly their pitching, where they let up 13 runs in their first two games of the series. This Astros’ rotation is capable of being dominant, so we’ll see if the Astros can rebound in this one.

The Astros have had a rocky start, but this team is absolutely loaded. Their pitching is some of the best in the league, they have a young shortstop in Jeremy Pena that won the World Series MVP in his rookie season, Yordan Alvarez will be looking to make another MVP push this season, and maybe even Kyle Tucker could very well be a dark horse MVP candidate this season. They have all of these pieces, but what is tough for them is that they are missing their second basemen in Jose Altuve, who is out after getting hit in the thumb with a pitch in the World Baseball Classic. This team is very good, but it’s difficult to tell if they will be able to overcome their struggles in this game.

Minnesota Twins Preview

The Minnesota Twins have started the season off at 4-2, and that has them sitting at second in the AL Central.

The Twins got off to a fast start by winning four straight to start the season, and then they dropped their last two games against the Marlins. Their bats had a difficult time getting things going in those last two games against the Marlins, as they only scored two runs in those two games combined. One of those games did end up being against the NL Cy Young Award winner in Sandy Alcantara, so it’s not too surprising that they had a difficult time getting things going. It won’t be much easier against the Astros, so we’ll see how it goes.

Aside from their last two games, Minnesota’s offense has been pretty solid. One of the biggest things for them is that they have been getting some good production from Joey Gallo. Gallo has had a rough time in his past few seasons after struggling with the Yankees before being traded to the Dodgers, but he is starting to find his stride again with the Twins. In six games this season, Gallo is batting .235, and he has also crushed three home runs. Gallo lost his offensive fire power in the past couple of seasons, so it’s good for him and the Twins to finally see him get it back.

Winner Prediction: Minnesota Twins -1.5

The Astros are a great team, but it just seems like the Twins have been pretty solid at the start of the season. It always feels like a toss up between two teams in a game of baseball, but it wouldn’t be too surprising to see the Twins get the win in this one.
