Bengals vs. Browns Key Stats
The Cincinnati Bengals are one of the top offensive teams in the entire NFL as they were seventh in the sport with 25.7 points and 11th with 353.8 total yards per game. The only change on this side of the ball was adding center Ted Karras. They drafted a pair of wide receivers with Andrei Iosivas and Charlie Jones. The team also agreed to a 5-year, $275 million contract extension with quarterback Joe Burrow. This could be the final year of the offense looking like this as they have some free agents at the end of the season and they can do well here.
The defense of the Bengals did a pretty solid job a year ago as they gave up 19.6 points (fifth) on 337.7 total yards per game. Their entire starting defense is full of players returning from the 2022 season. They added a trio of rookies in the secondary and should be able to play well this season.
The Cleveland Browns are one of the most intriguing teams heading into the 2023 season as they are ready to kick off the year with quarterback Deshaun Watson starting in Week 1. The offense has lost running back Kareem Hunt but added wide receiver Elijah Moore to add with Amari Cooper and Donovan Peoples-Jones as well as tight end David Njoku. This offense was in the middle-of-the-pack a year ago as they were 17th in football with 21.2 points and 14th with 349.1 total yards per game. With coach Kevin Stefanski looking to change his offensive philosophy, it will be interesting to see how different it is.
Their defense was 19th last season with 22.4 points per game and 12th with 331.2 total yards per game. They added defensive end Za’Darius Smith, defensive tackle Dalvin Thomlinson and defensive tackle Shelby Harris to bolster the line. The Browns need to show some improvement if they want to make the postseason in 2023.
Bengals vs. Browns Prediction
These teams are a lot closer than people want to believe and a big reason is the re-emergence of Watson. Cleveland outscored Cincinnati 42-36 while splitting the two games. The Browns are able to apply pressure on Burrow and should do well. This game should be interesting to see how it unfolds.
