Cleveland Guardians Preview
Cleveland is coming into this game at 14-15, and they are sitting at 2nd place in the AL Central.
The Guardians have struggled a little bit at the start of the season, but luckily for them, they are now facing a beaten down Yankees team. With all the injuries that New York is going through right now, Cleveland could not have caught them at a better time. Cleveland dropped two of the three games in the first series they played in against the Yankees, so we’ll see if they can bounce back in this series after taking the first game of this three game set. But what will be the most interesting story in this game is that Tanner Bibee will take the mound for the second time in his career.
Bibee made his MLB debut against the Colorado Rockies on April 26th, and he was dealing in his first major league start. He threw for 5.2 innings, which he only let up one run along with eight strikeouts. This will be a huge game for him, especially since Yankee Stadium isn’t always the friendliest place to pitch at. But with how the Yankees are injured right now, we’ll see if he will be able to take advantage of that.
New York Yankees Preview
The Yankees have been struggling recently, and they are in last in the AL East as of right now.
The biggest priority for New York right now is to get healthy. Their superstar in Aaron Judge has been pretty close to being sent to the injured list with a strained hip, and Giancarlo Stanton is also out for at least the next couple of weeks with a hamstring injury. Harrison Bader has also been injured at the start of the season, with his return expected to be for their upcoming series against the Rays. Their pitching rotation has taken multiple hits, with Carlos Rodon, Luis Severino, and Frankie Montas all being out to start the season. And on top of that, they are missing one of their top bullpen arms in Jonathan Loaisiga, who will be out until at least August or September. If they can get healthy, it wouldn’t be surprising to see this team have a pretty good bounce back.
The one good thing for New York right now is that Gerrit Cole will be starting for them in this game. Gerrit Cole has gotten off to a magnificent start this season, with him being 5-0 in six appearances, along with an ERA of 1.11 and 44 strikeouts. He has been pitching like the ace that the Yankees have paid him to be, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him continue his dominance in this game. The Yankees showed that they can shut down the Guardians offense, because that’s what they did in the last game until Clay Holmes came into the game and gave up two runs to give the Guardians the lead. Domingo German pitched 8.1 innings, and he only let up one run. And if Gerrit Cole is out there this time, it may go even better for New York as long as their bullpen doesn’t have more problems.
Winner Prediction: New York Yankees -1.5
The Yankees have been in a rough stretch, but they should have the advantage in this game with Gerrit Cole on the mound.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see this end up as a pitching duel, but it looks like the Yankees have the advantage right now.
