Jaguars vs. Colts Key Stats
Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars have shown the ability to do well on the offensive side of the football field. They did well as the Jags finished ninth with 23.9 points and seventh as they had 358.6 total yards per game. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence continues to improve and has some incredible talent with running back Travis Etienne, tight end Evan Engram and wide receivers Calvin Ridley, Zay Jones and Christian Kirk. With the second season of coach Doug Pederson’s system, this offense could be explosive.
The defense of the Jags needs to show a little bit of improvement as they finished 14th in points per game (21.4) and 24th in yards per game given up (352.0). The best thing this defense did was the fact they had the best opposing fourth down percentage at 32.26 percent. This team did very well and really kept a majority of their team intact as they are led by their trio of linebackers in Josh Allen, Foyesade Oluokun and Travon Walker. If the defense can continue to step up, this team has the ability to be as strong as the top seed in the entire AFC.
Indianapolis Colts
The Indianapolis offense is close to hitting the reset button as they drafted quarterback Anthony Richardson and are in a bit of a flux with running back Jonathan Taylor. He is currently on the PUP list meaning he will miss at least the first four games. This team is going to be incredibly interesting under first year head coach Shane Steichen and should struggle in the early portion of the season.
Their defense traded away cornerback Stephon Gilmore and lost defensive end Yannock Ngakoue to free agency. This defense struggled a year ago as they were 28th with 25.1 points per game and 15th with 334 total yards. However, they did an outstanding job as they were ninth last year with a 37.95 third down percentage against. The Colts have a difficult stretch this season and this will be something to see as they should be prepared to struggle.
Jaguars vs. Colts Prediction
The Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to be one of the best offensive teams in the NFL while the Indianapolis Colts are one of the biggest question marks. They have a rookie quarterback in Anthony Richardson and do not have running back Jonathan Taylor to alleviate the pressure off him. I understand the Jaguars struggle in Indianapolis but go with the Jacksonville Jaguars to cover the spread on the road.
