Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Tampa Bay Rays Betting Odds Breakdown

The Tampa Bay Rays and Pittsburgh Pirates are in the middle of a three game set, and the Rays will be looking to get another win after taking game one.

Tampa Bay is coming into this game as the favorite at -1.5, and the over/under is sitting at 7 runs. Along with that, the moneyline is sitting at -210 for Tampa Bay and +180 for Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh Pirates Preview

The Pirates have started the year off at 20-10, which has been a very big surprise for this Pittsburgh team.

The Pirates have gotten off to an unreal start this season, and it is going to be fun if they are able to keep it going. A lot of their success can be attributed to their pitching, with the Pirates as a whole having an ERA of 3.58 this season. Their pitching has been exceeding expectations, and their offense has been very solid too. And what has been a great decision is extending Bryan Reynolds, because he is having a great start to the year.

Bryan Reynolds is fresh off of signing an eight-year contract extension for $106.75 million, and it looks like it has become a great decision for the Pirates. Reynolds has started the season with a batting average of .330, along with five home runs, and 23 RBI’s. After a while of trade rumors around Reynolds, it looks like he will for sure have a home in Pittsburgh for the next eight years. With how this team has been playing to start the season, the Pirates should be a force in the National League for many years.

Tampa Bay Rays Preview

The Rays are the best team in the league right now, and they have looked unstoppable to start the season.

Right now, the Rays are 24-6, which is the best record in the league by about three games. The Rays have done just about everything right this season, especially with their pitching. Pittsburgh’s pitching has been fantastic this season, but Tampa Bay’s pitching has been the best in the league to start the year. They have an ERA of 3.03 as a whole, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see their dominant pitching continue in this game since Shane McClanahan is on the mound for them. McClanahan is 5-0 in six appearances this season, and he is also boasting an ERA of 2.12 along with 42 strikeouts. Their pitching hasn’t been the only thing they’ve done well, though. In fact, the Rays have done basically everything right at the start of the year.

The Rays offense has been lights out to start the season, with them leading in most offensive categories. They are first in hits, home runs, RBIs, runs, batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging. With all of that and their tremendous pitching, that has led the Rays to a run differential of +106. That is by far the most in the MLB right now, so we’ll see if they can keep it going.

Winner Prediction: Tampa Bay Rays -1.5

The Pirates are a little bit unproven as of right now, so the Rays winning another game in this game wouldn’t be surprising. Right now, it just seems like the Rays are unstoppable, so you should expect the Rays to get the win in this one.
