TCU vs. Kansas State Breakdown and Betting Odds

Two ranked Big 12 rivals are set to square off this Saturday as No. 8 TCU (6-0) hosts No. 17 Kansas State (5-1). Kickoff is set for 8 PM EST with TCU favored by 3.5 points and the over/under set at 46.5.

Kansas State has won these two teams last three matchups, with two of them having TCU favored to win. Last year’s matchup saw Kansas beat down TCU in a 31-12 victory that saw them cover the -3.5 point spread.

TCU Overview

The Horned Frogs are off to a perfect 6-0 record to the season and have covered four of six of these games. They are coming off of a close game with other Big 12 rival Oklahoma State in a 43-40 victory in which the Horned Frogs failed to cover the -5 point spread. Quarterback Max Duggan threw for 2 touchdowns and 286 yards. The star of the game was receiver Quentin Johnston, who ran for 180 yards on 8 receptions, averaging 22.5 yards per reception and punched in a touchdown. Johnston has been a key piece in TCU’s offense, and they will continue to look to him to keep it rolling.

TCU’s offense has looked great this season, punching in 37 touchdowns, good for second in their conference. While TCU’s offense is great, it will prove to be a tough matchup against Kansas State’s defense. Their defense has also looked solid, 26.5 points per game, which is fifth in the Big 12. Amon G. Carter Stadium should also be rocking, as the TCU student body broke the attendance record last week with 6,200 students in attendance.

Kansas State Overview

Kansas State is also off to a hot start, only dropping one of six games played so far. They are coming off of a bye week, so expect them to be well rested. Their last game, a close, 10-9 victory against the Iowa State Cyclones was also a victory for the pickem spread. Quarterback Adrian Martinez attempted only 19 passes but was able to throw for 246 yards and a touchdown. The real story of this game was Kansas State’s receivers, Phillip Brooks III and Malik Knowles, who both had over 100 receiving yards.

Kansas State’s offense hasn’t gotten off to the best start, only averaging 27.5 points per game, which is seventh in their conference. However, their defense, which is allowing 21 points per game, is ranked third in the conference, and they’ll need to depend on it to stifle this strong TCU offense.

TakingVegas.com 1* Free Pick: TCU -3.5

TCU’s powerhouse offense makes us confident in choosing TCU -3.5 for this game. Max Duggan, Quentin Johnston, and Kendre Miller is easily the best skill trio that Kansas State has faced thus far, and we think they will have problems stopping it. Furthermore, TCU has scored 38 or more points in their last 5 games, and we don’t think Kansas State has enough offensive firepower to keep it close.
