NFL WEEK 1
Baltimore at NY Jets (9-11 @ 1PM EST)
Line: Baltimore -7
As of this writing, Zach Wilson is listed as questionable to play on Sunday as head coach Robert Saleh left open the possibility that Wilson could play in Week 1. To us here though, it simply doesn’t matter. Baltimore should really put a hurting on the Jets regardless of whether Flacco or Wilson makes the start.
New York will have massive problems with the Defensive Line of the Ravens, and we feel that will have the Jets QB’s under duress all game long. Yes, Wilson is more mobile than Flacco but coming off the knee injury we don’t expect Wilson to make many plays with his legs and if it’s Flacco in there, he’ll be like a statue back there and could be sacked 4 to 5 times.
Against most of the backups on the Giants defense, Joe Flacco went 7 of 12 for 76 yards and a pick 6 in his lone preseason start. We cannot see him, or Wilson generating many points against an extremely tough Ravens defense.
On Offense, Lamar Jackson and the rest of the skill plays Baltimore has will be just too tough for a sub-par defense stop. New York has question marks all over the field and their starting units on both sides did not fare well in their preseason games.
Also, remember this about Baltimore. They were the most injured team in the league last season yet still had an 8-3 record through 11 games. They go into this affair as healthy as they have been in years, and they are 5-1 in their last 6 opening games of the season. Under John Harbaugh, they are 10-4 in Week 1.
The Jets have lost their last 3 openers and 5 of their last 6. This is an organization that generally starts slow and stays slow as the season progresses. Look for Baltimore to win this game by double digits in quite easy fashion. The Jets are not a very good team, and they will look the part against a far superior Ravens team.
