Texans vs. Jaguars Key Stats

Houston Texans

The Houston Texans have been struggling to get going offensively as they are scoring 14.5 points on 375 total yards per game. They need to establish more of a running game as they are averaging just 62 rushing yards per game up to this point. That would really help rookie quarterback CJ Stroud as he is currently 58-of-91 (63.7 completion percentage) for 626 yards with a pair of touchdown passes while also running seven times for 21 yards. With offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil listed as questionable, Stroud is going to need to get the ball out quickly.

The defense for the Houston Texans has been struggling to start this season as they are allowing 28 points on 316 total yards per game. They are doing well limiting the pass but they have safety Jalen Pitre, linebacker Denzel Perryman, cornerback Tavierre Thomas and cornerback Derek Stingley Jr all on the injury report. Last week, the Texans allowed the Colts to score 31 points on 353 total yards. The defense was not able to stop the run as the Colts averaged 5.5 rushing yards per attempt and in the passing game, they did not record a single sack and just one quarterback hit. Coach DeMeco Ryans has been a defensive mind and needs to coach up the defense to lead the team.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars have not clicked offensively as they are averaging 20 points on 317.5 total yards per game heading into Week 3. Trevor Lawrence has struggled to begin the season as he is 46-of-73 (63.0 completion percentage) for 457 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. His 34.4 QBR also ranks 28th in the NFL up to this point. This offense has a lot of talent in the skill positions and should be able to do a lot better going forward as the season goes on.

Their defense has done well with 19 points on 347 total yards per game. The Jags defense is doing well at suffocating the run as they have given up just 83 rushing yards per game. Their defense has been doing well at forcing turnovers as they have two interceptions, four forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries. Linebacker Josh Allen has been forcing pressure with three sacks and three tackles for loss as their best defensive player thus far. If this defense can stay healthy, they can be an underrated group throughout the season as many people are focused on the offensive side of things.
