Chiefs vs. Jaguars Key Stats
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs have a solid offensive team and struggled a bit as they scored 20 points on 316 total yards against the Detroit Lions. They did not have tight end Travis Kelce and the wide receivers had a rough game as there were way too many dropped passes. Patrick Mahomes finished going 21-of-39 for 226 yards with two touchdowns and an interception as well as six rushing attempts for 45 yards. The offense could not convert as they were just 5-of-14 on third down attempts. The offensive line deserves a lot of credit as they did not allow a single sack but did give up seven quarterback hits. If this team can figure out how to get back on track, they will be in a good position going forward defending their Super Bowl championship.
The defense for the Chiefs did pretty well given the circumstances as they gave up 21 points on 368 total yards. They were without defensive tackle Chris Jones as he was holding out and they were not able to apply much pressure as the team recorded four quarterback hits and one sack. With cornerback La’Darius Sneed listed as questionable for this upcoming game but they should do better here. They are going up against a tough offense so it will be interesting to see what they can do in this matchup.
Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars had a solid offensive team as they scored 31 points on 346 total yards in the first game of the season against the Indianapolis Colts. Trevor Lawrence had a good game as he was 24-of-32 for 241 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Wide receiver Calvin Ridley had a massive game after being suspended last season as he finished with eight catches on 11 targets for 101 yards with a touchdown and a fumble. These offenses committed two turnovers (one interception, one forced fumble) and need to figure out how to do well in this game as well as they were able to move the football pretty easily.
The defense did an okay job as they gave up 21 points on 280 total yards and did a great job as a team. They were able to hold the Colts to 2-of-12 on third down and 1-of-5 on fourth down tries. Jacksonville did a good job as they held Indy to 2.5 rushing yards per attempt as well as forcing three turnovers (two fumble recoveries, one interception). Jacksonville’s pass-defense needs to figure out how to defend a WR1 as Michael Pittman Jr was the only legitimate pass-catching option as he had almost 100 yards and a touchdown. This game was a huge plus for the confidence of Jacksonville and will be great going up against this Chiefs defense.
