Chargers vs. Titans Key Stats

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers had a great offensive showing as they were able to put up 34 points on 462 total yards. Justin Herbert had a good game as he was 23-of-33 for 229 yards and a touchdown pass. However, they had a huge running game as well as running back Austin Ekeler finished the game with 16 carries for 117 yards (7.3 yards per attempt) with a rushing touchdown as well as four receptions for 47 yards. However, Ekeler is dealing with an ankle injury that has him listed as questionable for this upcoming game. The offense dominated as they went 9-of-15 on third down tries and averaged 5.7 yards per play. If they can come close to matching these numbers again, they can be arguably the best offense with offensive coordinator Kellen Moore calling the shots on this side of the field.

The defense struggled to defend throughout the gam as they allowed 36 points on 536 total yards in the opening game. They gave up way too many chunk plays as the Dolphins averaged 8.2 yards per play. Los Angeles was able to force a pair of turnovers (one interception, one fumble recovery) but they were not able to do much in terms of pressure as they had a pair of quarterback hits with zero sacks. This defense should be able to do a lot better than they did in Week 1 with their talent and step up in Week 2.

Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans did not do too well offensively in the opening game of the season as they finished with 15 points on 302 total yards. Ryan Tannehill was awful in the game as he finished 16-of-34 for 198 yards and three interceptions. Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is dealing with an ankle injury and could miss this upcoming game. This offense could not sustain drives as they were just 2-of-12 on third down attempts and a big reason for the issues was the fact the Saints were able to get 10 quarterback hits on Tannehill. If Derrick Henry can step up and dominate in the running game like he has shown throughout his career, it can really help the offense get out of first gear.

Their defense did a pretty well as they allowed 16 points on 351 total yards in the opening game. They were able to force mistakes as they had a fumble recovery and an interception throughout Week 1. Tennessee did a decent job at stuffing the run as they gave up 2.6 rushing yards per attempt. Safety Amani Hooker had both turnovers while adding a pair of pass deflections but he popped up on the injury report with a concussion and if he is out, that is a massive blow to the secondary. They have talent to do this type of performance once again and are going to need to play well against a loaded offensive team like the Chargers.
