Dolphins vs. Patriots Key Stats

Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins had an incredible offensive showing in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers as they scored 36 points on 536 total yards. The team was able to move the ball extremely well as they averaged 8.2 yards per play. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa had a great game as he was 28-of-45 for 466 yards with three touchdowns and an interception while also fumbling twice (one lost). Wide receiver Tyreek Hill proved his worth in this game as he finished with 11 catches on 15 targets for 215 yards with a pair of touchdowns. This team has shown the ability to dominate and should have a ton of confidence going forward.

The defense did struggle though as they allowed 34 points on 433 total yards in the game. They were not able to get stops on third down as the Chargers went 9-of-16 on those situations. Miami needs to do a lot better at stopping the running game as they gave up 5.8 rushing yards per attempt and zero forced turnovers. They were not able to really put too much pressure on the opposing quarterback as they sacked Justin Herbert three times and hit him five times. They need to be able to get stops if they want to continue winning games going forward.

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots shown a good ability on the offensive side of the field as they recorded 20 points on 392 total yards against the Philadelphia Eagles. Quarterback Mac Jones had one of his best games in the NFL as he went 35-of-54 for 316 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. With the question marks surrounding Juju Smith-Schuster’s role in the offense, things can get interesting quickly. The offense battled back from being down 16-0 after the first quarter to the reigning NFC Champions and with running backs Ezekiel Elliott and Rhomandre Stevenson doing well in the backfield, this offense could surprise a lot of people.

The defense did a decent job as they gave up 25 points on 267 total yards in the game. New England was able to force a fumble and recovered it to get a turnover in the game. They were able to record three sacks but only had one other quarterback hit but that did not limit them from holding Philly to 4-of-13 on third down and 0-of-1 on fourth down. New England had a solid defense led by Matthew Judon as he had a sack, two quarterback hits and three solo tackles. The Patriots could do very well against a stacked offensive team with the mastermind of Bill Belichick on the sideline.
