Giants vs. Cardinals Key Stats

New York Giants

The New York Giants have been brutal offensively to kick off the regular season as they were unable to score while gaining 171 total yards. They were absolutely brutal as they had five different fumbles in the game (one lost). Quarterback Daniel Jones was awful by going 15-of-28 for 104 yards with a pair of interceptions. Running back Saquon Barkley struggled to get some rushes as he has 12 carries for 51 yards (4.3 yards per attempt). Their special teams also was awful as kicker Graham Gano was 0-for-2 on field goal attempts. New York should be able to do a lot better against a lesser defense but with tight end Darren Waller dealing with a hamstring injury, they need to figure things out going forward.

Their defense had an absolutely terrible Week 1 as they allowed 40 points on 265 total yards. The Giants need to defend the run a bit better as they allowed Dallas to run for 4.1 yards per carry throughout the game. They were unable to provide much pressure either as they did not record a sack and just three quarterback hits. New York needs to prove they can be a good defense and bounce back from the debacle to start the season. They have the talent to do just that and if they can do well here, it can get some confidence back into the team.

Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals do not have a lot of talent throughout the roster and it showed as they scored 16 points on 210 total yards against the Washington Commanders in Week 1. Joshua Dobbs is their starting quarterback and he finished 21-of-30 for 132 yards so he did a good job without risking too much or pushing the ball deep. Dobbs did fumble the ball three times with two of them being lost. The team struggled on third down as they only converted four times out of their 14 attempts. Arizona needs to figure out how to score points when in prime position as they did not score on either of their red zone attempts either. This team needs to take advantage of every situation if they want to be competitive.

The defense did a pretty solid job against the Washington Commanders as they gave up 20 points on 248 total yards (156 passing, 92 rushing). They were able to defend the goal line as they held the Commanders to 2-of-5 conversions inside the red zone. Arizona also did well as Washington went 4-for-12 on third down attempt. However, the eye-popping stat was the fact they were able to record six sacks and seven pass deflections throughout the game. Linebacker Dennis Gardeck had a pair of sacks and a forced fumble and if the defense can play like this, they can really surprise people.
