Date & Time: December 16th, 2023 @ 7:30 Eastern

A solid game in my opinion to start out the bowl season with at 7:30 eastern on ABC. You have the 7-5 UCLA Bruins going at the 8-5 Boise State Broncos. Boise State comes into this game have won 4 Straight and looks to put another W on the board. UCLA is coming looking to prove a point that beating USC wasn’t some fluke win, after getting dominated in the final game of the season against Cal.

UCLA Breakdown

UCLA looks to prove that it’s signature win over USC wasn’t some flash in the pan here after looking flat against Arizona, ASU & Cal at the end of the season. Now with the Bruins ultimately deciding on keeping Chip Kelly, he knows he needs a statement win to keep those rumors quiet.

With leading passer Dante Moore in the transfer portal, the Bruins are turning to Ethan Barbers to run the offense. He started six games this season going 89 of 134 passes for 984 yards. He also threw for 9 touchdowns and just 3 interceptions.

UCLA averaged 25.8 points per game this year with was 80th in the country. They also averaged 420.3 Total yards per game for 45th in the country. That included 229.1 yards passing & 191.3 yards rushing.

The Bruins defense gave up 18.1 points per game which was good enough for 15th overall in the country and just 299 years per game. Leading the way with stuffing the run for an average of just 69.6 per game which put them at 3rd in the country.

Boise State Breakdown

Boise State looks to stay hot after winning 4 straight to finish the season. They got off to a slow start losing 3 of the first 5, but still ended up 8-5 on the year. Now they come into this game a little light handed as they have been absolutely crushed with the transfer portal losing both their starting QB and top WR.

True freshman CJ Tiller takes charge of the Broncos offense this Saturday and this is no easy task going up against the tough defense that the Bruins have. The question that Tiller will have to answer is this can he put the ball in his receivers’ hand, so they are not a one-sided offense.

The Broncos averaged 32.9 point per game this year and 444 total yards per game. That put them 32nd & 24th overall for the year in those categories. Where they really stood out was their rushing attack averaging 214.7 yards per game with was good enough for 7th in the country.

The defense on the other hand was average at best. They gave up 24.8 points per game and about 375.5 yards per. Look for them to try and do their best to contain this Bruins offense.

Overall Breakdown

The real question of the day is going to be can the Broncos offense not a one-sided show against this tough Bruins defense. Even though the Broncos are one of the best rushing attacks in the country the Bruins are one of the elite run defenses. The Broncos are turning to a true freshman who has yet to throw a pass all season long. Playing the game at SoFi Stadium will have to feel like a little bit of a home field advantage for the Bruins but the key to victory will be if Garbers can keep the ball safe.
