We did our National League Prediction to win the World Series and now we will give you our American League Prediction which is the Houston Astros at 4 to 1 odds. Think about this one. As of July 20th, The Yankees are on a historic pace with a 64-28 record. Everyone has been speaking about New York like they are predestined to win the World Series and yet they are only 4.5 games ahead of the Astros in the standings.

In our minds, there are only two teams that can come out of the American League and that is either New York or Houston. Forget Minnesota, or Cleveland. Forget Tampa Bay or Seattle. This is a 2-horse race between the Yankees and Astros.

The Astros are 3-2 against the Yankees this season and damn near no-hit them twice. They are the one team that always seems to pitch well against New York, for whatever the reason. Yes, the Yankees have a much better offense than Houston does as New York has scored 94 more runs so far this season but that tends to go away, especially for the Yankees, in the postseason against Houston.

Justin Verlander has a career postseason ERA of 3.40 and a 14-11 overall record. However, against the Yankees, he is 4-1 and has allowed just 16 earned runs in 52 1/3 innings of work. He reminds us of what Curt Schilling used to do to the Yankees back in the early 2000’s. Some pitchers just have more success against certain organizations and Verlander seems to have the Yankees number.

Also, just like the Yankees have the number of Minnesota in the postseason, Houston has the number of the Yankees as they are 3-0 against New York in the playoffs including 2-0 in Championship Series.

Now, we understand that is looking far down the road as October is still more than 2 full months away however, it wouldn’t shock us if Houston finished the regular season with a better overall record than New York. The Yankees have certainly played above their heads this season and are bound to come down to earth a little.

New York is 3 to 1 to win the World Series and the Astros are 4 to 1. We feel the Astros are a better wager and we expect them to play the NY Mets in the Fall Classic
